Golden Africa

On a hot day in the dusty plains of Africa there was a Aardvark, not just any Aardvark, it was Alex the Aardvark. He was breaking open a termite mound when Betty the Badger came out of the shadows and said “Get away from my mound!”. Alex then said, “I was here first”. Betty started growling and Alex ran off for the fear that she might have bitten him. Alex did all the work to get the termite mound and ended up with nothing, while Betty just came and stole it and had a feast all to herself. The next day Morgan the Mandrill had her basket to go and harvest some fruits and nuts for the upcoming winter. She used her expert climbing ability to swing from branch to branch to gather fruit. She dropped down from the fruit trees and started her walk back to her burrow. She passed by Betty the Badger while trying to hide her basket from Betty, knowing that Betty would take it. When Morgan had passed by Betty, Betty had picked up on the sweet smell of the fruit and then said “ what do you have there in that basket”. Morgan replied “What basket?”. Betty had then pointed at the basket full of fruit behind Morgan’s back, then reached out to grab the basket. Morgan shows here teeth but Betty doesn’t care, she knows that Morgan wouldn’t bite her. Betty runs away to her burrow, she was very excited, she hadn’t had fruit very often because she couldn’t get up in the trees to get them down. When she got to her burrow she had quickly stuffed her face into the basket full of fruits and devoured the basket. Morgan was so upset, if she could have cried, she would have. Alex the Aardvark saw Morgan upset and went up to her and asked “What happened?”. Morgan then explained that Betty stole her fruit. The two went and found Betty walking around tripping all over the place. She looked so confused. Betty then started walking towards the lion dens, Morgan and Alex knew if she got any closer they would have attacked, the two had to act quickly. They had then rushed and grabbed her and dragged her back to her burrow. They put her in her bed and left her there. Betty was so mean to them but they still didn’t want her to get hurt.

The next day Morgan the Mandrill and Alex the Aardvark went to go check on Betty the Badger. When they had got there, Betty had been pacing around her burrow. Morgan and Alex walked in and Betty hadn’t noticed them come in. Alex the Aardvark coughed to get Betty the Badger’s attention. She looked up and was just in tears. Morgan walked closer to her and asked what was wrong. Betty broke down and hugged Morgan tightly. Morgan was in complete shock and asked “ Are you ok?”. Betty had then ran to her closet and grabbed a bunch of fruits. Betty then ran back to Morgan with a smile on her face. She looked down into Morgan’s eyes and handed her the fruit. Betty then said “I just want to thank you guys for saving me yesterday. I had ate something funny and found myself in a delusion. You guys saved my life so I was wondering if I could make up for all the awful things I had done to you”. Morgan looked down at the fruit and thought for a moment. She had then looked back at Betty and handed back the fruits. Alex the Aardvark then said “ You don’t have to repay us. We were just following the Golden Rule, Treat Others The Way You Want To Be Treated”. Betty smiled. She then insisted that they stayed to have dinner with her. Alex and Morgan agreed and they all had a great meal.

After winter had pasted Alex the Aardvark, Morgan the Mandrill, and Betty the Badger had all agreed to meet up to have a nice Spring. When they all saw each other they rejoiced because they were all with their friends again. It felt like it had been a really long winter. They had all heard of stories about a sacred place where winter was never a thing. Alex and Betty both wanted to go and find this sacred place. Although Morgan wanted to stay and appreciate what she had. She was grateful for surviving the winter. Alex, Betty and Morgan decided to have lunch together. While they were having lunch, Morgan noticed Alex and Betty sharing secrets. Morgan then asked them what they were whispering about. Betty and Alex both looked up and said “we are leaving for the sacred land tomorrow”. Morgan then said “ you guys shouldn’t even be thinking about going there, you should just be grateful for what you have. We have each other and we are alive so that is all we need”. Alex and Betty both thought for a long while about what Morgan had said. It didn’t occur to them that they should be grateful for what they had, they didn’t think that they’re life was as great as Morgan was saying it was. The next day Morgan decided to go for a walk. While on her walk she saw Alex and Betty playing together. Once Betty and Alex saw Morgan they both ran up to her laughing and smiling. Morgan was confused on why they were still here, they were supposed to leave that day. Morgan asked them “why are you guys here, weren’t you supposed to leave already”. Betty said” we thought about what you said yesterday and we decided to be grateful for what we have and not to want more than what we need, so we are going to stay here with you”. Morgan was so happy, she decided to join them in their games and fun. She was so grateful that she had made friends with them.
